Phenoxymethylpenicillin
What is Phenoxymethylpenicillin?
Phenoxymethylpenicillin is an antibiotic medication used to treat various bacterial infections, assisting your body in combating harmful bacteria causing illnesses.
It's commonly prescribed for throat, skin, and respiratory tract infections.
Phenoxymethylpenicillin belongs to the penicillin antibiotic class.
How Does it Work and Why is it Important to Take?
Phenoxymethylpenicillin works by attacking and halting the growth of bacteria, preventing them from multiplying. This allows your immune system to effectively eliminate the infection.
Taking Phenoxymethylpenicillin as directed is crucial for effective treatment, helping alleviate symptoms and speeding up recovery.
The Dose of The Medication
The usual adult dose of Phenoxymethylpenicillin for treating infections is 500mg four times a day. For preventing infections, it's 500mg twice a day.
The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection.
How and When to Take It
Take Phenoxymethylpenicillin on an empty stomach, preferably an hour before or two hours after meals.
Space the doses evenly throughout the day. For four times a day dosing, take it in the morning, before lunch, before dinner, and at bedtime. For twice a day dosing, take it 12 hours apart, such as 7am and 7pm.
Complete the prescribed course even if you feel better.
